I am about to get my order that I sent for from Del-Mart Molds and I would like to know if I should just use a reguler spoon for stirring my plastic and mixing my color? And also should I always use a candy thermometer for checking the temperature of the plastic or can I just look for it to get clear and get thin?
I like long ice tea spoons, you dont need a thermometer as you can tell when cooking it

I have two old, metal butter knives.

I second the butter knifes. They mix easily, you can use them to put glitter or hilite in your mix instead of pinching it, and you can scrape the excess plastic off the knife on the side of the pyrex. I use a seperate knife for each color.

I use good ole fashion WOODEN chop sticks, they are great. While stirring my plastic I usually lift the stick and watch the plastic drip off the stick nice and steady. When I go to a chinese resturant I ask for their chop sticks and they usually give me quite a few so I use them. Works for me
Thats what I used to use also. then we ran out of them lol, so I used a icetea spoon or a kitchen knife.

I am pretty new to this process, but I use a screwdriver for mixing.

I use a butter knife as well and know when it's ready by the drip off the knife.

I use a metal hanger that you use to hang items from a peg board, I like the ones with the round nub on the end, when making stiks it really Stirrs up the salt on the bottom

cheap ole butter knifes. bought about 5 at wallmart for $1.00 or so.
Plastic scrapes off easy after stirring.

Ill admit when Im wrong, a butter knife works much better then my metal pegboard hanger idea

Go to the dollar store for measuring and cups spoons (not Pyrex just for measuring). Also that where I get my butter knife's at, plus much more and if you ruin it it was just a buck.

5 stones, welcome to your new addiction! You'll get the feel of the plastic pretty quickly! Also, don't worry about burnig a few batches- it's GONNA happen, you can still use the plastic just won't have much control over the color.
I like to use butter knives, they seem to suit me fine. Have fun, good luck, you're gonna LOVE IT!
