Alot of people have asked how to make a skirted Grub or Stik ( ika)
its very simple, so simple in fact It took me a few years to figure out how they did it.
I was making a skirted Twin tail grub last year and a buddy came into the shop. He asked what I was playing with now and I showed him. and told him I have no problem making the grub and the skirted part but just didnt think it was worth it to sell due to you would need a round tube type cutter to cut the skirts. He laughs and told me how the bigger lure companies made them.
He used to work for one of the local ones adding the skirts to ikas and grubs while in highschool.
Basically what you need to do is buy your skirts from places like yamamoto baits , they sell them in bulk quanity and almost every color you can think of.
you will need:
Skirts ( from yamamoto baits)
grub baits or stik baits
a soldering gun with a flat knife tip( a hot butter knife will also work)
if you can only get double skirts you can always cut them in half with a razor blade and that way you will have 2 skirts from one.
hold the put the skirt on top of the head of the grub and slide the soldering iron in between the skirt and the grub, then turn on the heat and as it starts to melt pull the soldering gun out. holding the skirt to grub with light pressure until the bait is cool.
Thats all there is to it.
If you dont like plying with hot soldering irons you can use the bait glue from the many different manufactures to do the same.
stik baits you can cut into small 1-3 inch long chunks and add a skirt to them to come close to the ika's
