Dlew,
I know your making a swimbait mold and am curious to see it as I use many. One thing I was thinking about was that your standard 1 pice mold could not have much detail, but if you were to make it a 2 pice not like the the senko molds but a 2 pice w/ an open top. I would think you could add much more detail when making the mold if it were to be made in 2 pices? This is just a thought I dont know if it will work but if it does mabey you can make one some time in the future.

I actually been working on a 3 piece trout swimbait with a slightly open top SInce oct.
A three piece makes it easier for tooling and for people to pour colors, since trout come basically in three color pours. pour the belly add a section pour the middle add a section and pour the top.
One problem with adding detail is the time involved.
Right now the trout smooth will run about 300+ for a single cavity mold. If I wanted to add detail in them they would run upwards of $800 each. This detail would include scaling detail on fins etc.
I am going to try to have a few online before this swimbait season coming up, problem is your looking at almost all day for one mold(machining wise). Programming alone I have 30+ hours into all ready easy.

Forgot to add, these are 3 removable piece's, the bottom fins are actually pieces pinned and screwd in ( not removable)to get the proper angle of the bottom fins.
How ever the plastic since its plyable will come out easy.

Geez, Del, even I cannot afford that.
Del,
How about a one-piece swimbait mold? It should be simple and this is really all I need. I wouldn't mind ordering a couple of molds of... let's say... 5 or 6 cavities per mold. Something like this:

This is really all we need here in Southern CA in sizes from 3" to 6". We could even make three-color pours with it. I'm sure it would be a mold that most anglers can afford. :)
Will said it all. Even in the northeast that is all we need. I have decided to concentrate on a smaller number of baits and this would be one of them. Great fresh and salt water bait. Pop
I have a few like that drawn out, just dont have the time to run them right now. I have one I am making for a guy back east. your still looking at around 100+ for one of those. in a multi cavity mold.
Ive only had a few people interested in that style.
theres 2 ways to make this mold one is to cut each half, (1 side on each half)but making 3 colored pours will be a little difficult basically like wills pic.
the other way is to have the bottom of the mold at the bottom( instead of laying sideways), then your talking some thick materiial and special tooling . again which drives up the price.

I think your second option is better. In this manner you can pour three colors. The only flat area would be the back of the bait which is how that swimbait is designed anyway.
If you ever decide to make a mold with 5 or more cavities and you come up with a price. I would most likely order a couple of them right away.
Thanks.

I think I will stick w/ resin for my swimbait molds, but it would be great to get something unique
do you plan to offer a swimbait mold that is lifelike?
