ok, I finally got a chance to play with some of the lures that i've been making. when i put a hook in one of my sticks yesterday the bait turned cloudy (white) where the hook was. so my question is: why did it do that? am i adding too much salt?

What color was it to begin with?
Salt if not mixed really well with the plastic will absorb the moisture. or you just happen to have a clump of salt where your hook went it?
If you take a senko out of the package and leave it in humidity it will do the same thing and will get a tad bigger.

Make sure you plastic is mixed extreamly good with your salt, If you can picture this you want the plastic to cover every salt particle like a seal.
Just stri it a long time in hot plastic and you should be fine.

del,

i was using pumpkin, watermelon and baby bass (like the kinami baby bass) and they all did it. if i squeeze the baits between two fingers it does the same thing. also, if i tear the bait it's cloudy where i tore it.

i think i'm going to try a batch with less salt and see if it does the same thing.

Eric,

it might be the salt, ( you might be seing the white/cloudy salt)How much you adding?
You are adding the salt slowly after the plastic is cooked and clear correct?
I am betting its the salt,
Can you get a picture?

del,

the formula i used was:

4 parts plastic
2 parts salt
1 part softener

yes, i'm adding the salt after the plastic has turned clear. i'll try to get a picture up in the next day or two. thanks.

Del,

I just wanted to let you know that I didn't forget to post the pic. All my lures are at my parent's house with the boat. I'm headed over there after work today so I'll post the pic over the weekend.

Just my experience, but I don't like to add salt after the plastic is cooked. It clumps up. I feel that I can get the salt more evenly distributed by adding it before I cook the plastic. Your experience may be different that mine.

The only thing I add after the plastic is cooked is flake.

Del,

Here are a few pics of one of my baits. I was playing with a bunch of my baits today and it only happened in a few of them so I'm assuming it was just something I did wrong with a few of the batches. the third pic show what I'm talking about the best.

That looks like the salt wasnt mixed well ( maybe clumped)and when the hook went through it moved the salt.

Its really hard to say. Ive seen it happen on senkos in certain colors( usually lighter ones)

at least you got the problem fixed.
