Del, You mentioned on TU you might have some of the ribbit type molds available.... Any idea of when you might have them, how many cavitites/mold and cost??
I have molds out of pop and would like to have aluminum if possible...
Thanks!!! Jim
should see them online sometime tomorrow unless I decide to go out of town for the weekend.

Hope you had a good trip!!!!:D

Nope stayed in town, played with that mold and a bunch of others.
Making a 2 piece is no problem getting it to pour from the nose is a major problem.
It would be one sweet mold if it poured form the nose.
doesn't fill the legs and paddles like I figured. but I have a modification I am going to try later today.

My pop molds pour fine but I did add a small hole down in the lower part of the body. They look perfect every time.
Before the hole, I would have a pocket of air somewhere in the body that formed....

whats a POP mold? is it silacon or fiberglass?

POP is plaster of Paris i think?
Ghost, you have any pics of the finished product and the mold? $8. for a 5pack is killer lol
Got them done and they pour fine, I have a few mods to make on them and then they will be online with a price.

Look forward to seeing them Del!!! I'll get a picture of mine up in a few minutes. Oh yeah...pop is plaster of paris....
I have 30 of these molds as they were very easy to make. I love the ribbit but could not stomach the $$$$. With the softer plastic I have incredible results in the hook-up department also. I also use a weedless trailer setup on these with a treble hook (cut one barb off) and then run the 2 barbs left into the legs. Catches the short strikes almost all the time...

The ribbits are awesome. Ghostbaits, would you sell one of your molds? What did you make them out of?

Ghostbaits, I am clueless. Plaster of paris I now see. I am definitely going to do this. I just never have made any molds before. I would buy one if you would sell.

Let me know or I will watch for the posting. I am interested in multi-cavity when you get them but might get the single cavity to keep me busy for now!!!
My bad...I see them on the site now. Are they pretty much exactly like the Ribbits Del??? Do they pour while the mold is closed or do you have to pour the legs first?????
Thanks Del!!!
Jim
1 2 and 4 cavity are avail, I was addng them to the shopping cart about the same time you posted. we can ship out the singles as early as tommorow and the 2 and 4 cavities by friday/sat. still need to stock a few more up
I should have pics tomorrow maybe late late tonight, I left my camera at home and I am heading to the lake in a few hours for our weekly Big Fish Tourny.
I should add, I used them a few times over the last 2 weeks, they skip across the water pretty darn good, I been making them out of soft plastic (cpc2101) I think you guys might like a harder plastic like cpc 2109. maybe even the med cpc 2601, it will make the tails a little more rigid and probally kick up more water.
They have a hook pocket and a paddles on the ends of the tails that drop into the water.
if you want a white belly and green top you can pour a small white patch on the belly while the mold is open then finish pouring the green through the nose.
I pour mine through the nose one color and they fill the tails perfectly, you dont have to have your plastic very hot but of course the hotter the better for pouring.
One little side note:
Keep the filling chamfer filled so no air pockets get into the nose, however that might be a benifit having an air pocket in there?
if you really want a big splash dont cut off the excess plastic from the chamfer cone at the nose (liek we normally do with stick baits) it will make the frog double as a topwater lure and spit water from the nose like a popper( found this out by accident.)
I will post pics of both and the mold.

Thanks Del!!! I have poured mine with a little bubble in the nose but you have to watch out about where the hook goes through as it can cause the frog to just slide down the hook to easy.
Never thought about leaving the plastic on...hmmm...a popping, buzzing frog...
PS...I do like mine a littler tough than the soft plastic makes them but not a hard as the original frogs are as the hooks don't penetrate good enough through the real tough plastic sometimes....

The only way I throw the horny toads is with the sprue on. The bass are killing them that way. I do find the plastic is too soft. I've experimented with sugar flakes as well as salt to make the baits a bit more rigid. I'm using the 2101. Should I add a little hardener or try a harder plastic? The legs just don't kick they way I'd like them to.

You can add hardener OR get harder plastic....Either way will work...
Just be sure if you get harndener that you mix REAL well and then mix again!! That stuff is THICK...

the horny toads just dont kick the water up like the ribbit frogs, I have told some people to drop a bb( shot gun #7 shot pellet) at the tip of each tail and it seems to kick up more water. even the org horny toads dont kick near the water as the ribbet, but they work really good

I made my own molds out of cal 30, I seem to not get the leggs to flap even will be pulled across the water, I do not know if it was my pour or the mold,
How does this frog from the uluminum mold react compaired to the stanley ribbit ?
Del, any samples from that mold sent to me to see what I will purchase seeing the molds are not cheap I want to make sure I am getting what I want
please email me at coolcritters@netonecom.net
if you made the mold and the bait looks the same I am betting its has something to do with the plastic either being to soft or too hard. you need to get the same softness hardness as the org bait for it to function the same way,
This is one reason I dont send out samples, for one I dont pour that much cause I dotn have very much time and when I do , my baits I just pour what ever plastic I usually have laying around. since I mostly fish jigs/grubs I usually pour the stuff I use for jigs.
for example if I sent out a stick sample with just hard plastic or soft plastic, while the mold looks fine and everything the bait might not feel the same, wiggle the same etc. so the customer decides its the molds fault as to why the stick doesnt work.
I will try to get some better pics up over the weekend, this holiday weekend really put a damper on things.
The shape is there its just up to the pourer to pour the right consistany of plastic in order to get it to work.

TR21X:
When my mold arrives I will be glad to send you a sample out. I made 30 cavities (individual molds) out of plaster of paris and the feet go CRAZY!!!
I used soft plastic though. I did try some with a "harder" plastic and did notice some of the action gone but still a lot of commotion going through the water. Way more than any other frog on the market by far.
The best thing about these in soft plastic is that when you stop reeling, they sink horizontal almost with the feet fluttering. I never have to throw back something else on a blow up, just stop reeling for a few seconds, twitch and FISH ON!!!!
PM me your address and I'll let you know when the mold gets here.
