I used to pour outside in the pole barn. It took forever to heat up and I only had wood to heat it with. In Michigan, sometimes I couldn't ever get the temp inside above 50 degrees when it was below 20 degs. outside.
I used to work on laboratory airfow systems. Part of that being what was called a fume hood.
I bought a range top exhaust hood and made my own containment system.
The wood was left over from another project at the house and the exhaust hood was $100 at the local DIY store. The 6" pipe and vent with backdraft damper was only another $20-30. The table was free. I'm all set.
To top it off, I brought in my air compressor and rigged up my airbrush.
The best thing is.... It actually works! My wife has yet to sniff one fume in any of the rest of the house.
I just thought I would share with everyone.

Looks great. What part of Michigan are you in? I am in Kentwood, just south of Grand Rapids.

bhorlings,
I'm in the SW corner of Jackson county.
I know a few guys from your area through another Michigan based forum.
Right now I'm getting ready to put on another soft plastics seminar for some of the guys on there.
Last year we just covered the basics, this year I'm gonna teach em how to make the "basstrix" style tube minnows.
Check it out on GreatLakesBass.com
I've sold Del quite a bit of stuff to the guys that come over and see how it's done.

Hi guys,
Another newbie here, and first off I'd like to thank Del for enabling the average Joe the opportunity to do this stuff. Also all the help and tips on this site are so helpful for someone getting started.
I recieved my 5 1/4" stik kit yesterday,and already I'm having a blast.Sure I had a few remelts,dents etc,but before long I was getting the hang of it.
I live in Maine where the water is very clear so wanted a lot of natural looking baits.I ordered Light Watermelon,Motor Oil and Green Pumpkin for colors.Red,Green,Purple glitter.I also had some Black Grape and Rose Copper glitter from Lurecraft. My stove top,and Aluminum pouring pans also came from Lurecraft as well as some Crawfish scent.
For my set up I took the idea from Emeryi, but because my work bench is real close to the basement window it was very inexpensive, and pretty easy to do.The bathroom fan was $13,and the 3" dryer vent hose approx $12.I already had the plywood.I duct taped around the top of the fan where there were some small holes to prevent any smell coming thru that way.For now I am just using a cordless flashlight for extra light. For $25 it works really well, and I'd say takes care of 95% of the fumes and smell. It keeps it really confined to one area.
My first pours were from left to right, and using Dels basic stik formula:
10 drops Lt Watermelon,red glitter.
20 drops G/Pumpkin,green,purple glitter.
15 drops Motor Oil,Blk Grape,Rose Copper glitter.
10 drops each of Motor Oil & Lt Watermelon, red, green, purple, blk grape, rose copper glitter.
My last was an attempt at a swirl, but came out more laminated, and it came out real subtle. It's tough to see in the pic.It was 20 drops Green Pumpkin,10 drops Lt watermelon, red, purple glitter.I did make a double sided pouring pan.
I just wanted to share this with you guys,as i have wanted to do this for 2yrs now,and it truly is my favorite lure to use.
Thanks again, and a Happy New Year to all.
-Tom.

I did just want to mention that of course the plywood is cut out so the fan sits snug on top with the grill caulked on the underside to give it a air tight fit.
