I am having problems with my fluke molds. not actually the molds but the finished product. When i fish with them they spin in circles when jerked. anyone else have this problem? anyone know how to fix it? someone told me to put salt in the bottom half of the bait but if i'm going to put salt, i would rather put it in the whole thing. any help would be great.

I just fished with some I made last week (Standard Calhous plastic with salt). Used a 4/0 offset Gammy on #10 vanish and it glided side-to-side fine.
Only time I have seen it spin is if the hook point was off center--particularly in the nose of the bait.

Ol' big, I fish flukes 60-70% of the fishing year. I fish them in deep water, shallow water, rivers, ponds, lakes, alot of times I will use a #3 wide gap hook with the hook only in about a 1/4 of the nose, but my favorite way to fish them is to use a long shank hook not as big as a #5 but 2,3,4 and use a tag-along "I call it a cork screw" put it on the the hook just tight enough to stay on but where it will slide up and down the shank of the hook. Then just screw the nose of the fluke to almost touch the hook. You can use a weedless hook in weeds and brush or a plain hook in more open water. It has awesome action, and the fish bite down on the fluke and don't feel the hook and just suck hook and all in. But remember the smaller the hook the more chance of it swallowing the hook. I have had fish hit the fluke and just swim off and I watched those fish hold that fluke for seconds before I set the hook or the fish realized it was a hoax. Try it. Shane

O'l Big......I have made thousands of flukes...all sizes.. i have noticed a few things about them: if you do not fill mold completely to where the plactic "bubbles" out, just before the point it over flows you will end up getting a cuped back. this slight concave of the back will cause it to spin like a retarded injured minow. try to round off the backs it will help alot. Also use a soft to medium soft plastic. a harder plastic makes it more rigid and the whole trick to a fluke is to have a whip like action in the bait when you jerk it so it starts and stops itself. I have also tried 2 colors , mostly white pearl belly with any other color, use salt for the belly color but not the top body color. this adds a little balast along with the hook. And most importantly is how you hook it. I only slide the hook about 1/4 " or less into the nose then bring it around to the belly...when i insert the hook through the back i press my finger down in front of the hook point and slide the hook through. it works for me. last thing you want when you are looking at your bait is a curve in the back.you want it as straight as possible, a little bow in the back won't hurt with the nose pointing down. I hope I could be of some help.
